I meant to do a review of this earlier, but meh. Procrastination FTL!
I picked up MCF: MillionHeir [Flash warning] on a whim while we were at Best Buy on Valentine’s Day weekend. I’d seen the commercial for it featuring Liv Tyler and her sister Chelsea, and it piqued my interest.
I got it home, cracked it open, booted it up, and didn’t stop playing it for about 4 days — which is how long it took me to finish the game. That doesn’t seem like a lot of time, but you have to take into consideration my love of tedium and the way this game pandered to my OCD. I had a blast discovering new scenes, and even being asked to find “new” items in older scenes.
The story line was cute, but it didn’t have much to do with the whole “hide and seek” action. You were asked to find “clues” hidden in the area to find out how the suspects knew the missing millionaire, what they might have against him, who might be his heir, and eventually, who might have kidnapped said heir. The clues didn’t have much to do with the plot, but it was still fun to find stuff. In truth, the story mode is a heck of a lot like the quick play mode except with some dialog, some interactive bits, and a few mini-games tossed in.
It was nice to go through the story mode once, though, if only to unlock all of the scenes in quick play mode, which I’m still playing a few times a day. Yeah, there will come a time when I instantly know where every possible item in every scene is hiding, but until then, it’s a nice non-intensive way to occupy my brain when I don’t want to get involved in anything too deep.
My score: 7 out of 10
